What is capability?

Cognitive capability is an important aspect of brain health that enables individuals to:

- Organize and manage their finances

- Organize and manage legal documents eg. will

- Organize and manage legal contracts eg. marriage

Cognitive impairment can interfere with a person's ability to organize and manage important aspects of living.

Cognitive (or mental) capability is sometimes referred to as capacity or competency. In British Columbia, the terms capability or capacity are generally used to describe a medical assessment whereas the term competency refers to a legal determination.

An expert medical assessment of cognitive capability can be an essential part of estate planning and protection.
